How To Make A DIY Glass Mirror

The idea of a DIY glass mirror can be daunting. Not only is it expensive to buy one, but you also have a lot of work to do to make it look as good as you want. The good news is that making your mirror is quite simple! If you have an old frame or some glass lying around, all you need are a few other supplies and a little bit of time.

GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES

Gather the following supplies:

-a frame

-a piece of glass

-superglue

-a foam brush

-sanding paper

-tape measure

-painter’s tape

MAKE THE MIRROR FRAME

First, you’ll need to find the right frame for your DIY glass mirror. This can be a discarded frame, and you’re giving new life, or it can be a new frame. Whatever you choose, make sure the frame doesn’t stain it. You want this to be a clean surface, so it’s easier to paint.

Start painting with your chosen color after you have the frame set up. You can use any paint and any brush- make sure that the paint is dry before moving on to the next step.

COVER THE BACK OF THE FRAME

The first step is to cover the back of your frame with aluminum foil. You don’t need many supplies for this step, but it’s important to have an old frame or some glass on hand. Measure the width and length of the frame and cut a piece of aluminum foil that size. Place the foil inside the frame and fold any excess over the edge. Once you’ve got one side covered, do the same thing for the other side.

APPLY THE MIRROR FILM

The first thing you need to do is apply the mirror film. The film is the reflective material that will give your glass mirror the shine and clarity you want. It’s a two-sided tape that you put on just like any other sticker. When applying the film, make sure it’s pressed down, not peel off easily.

ATTACH THE MIRROR to the frame

The first step is to attach the mirror to the frame. You do this by drilling a hole in the back of your frame then securing it with screws. Next, you place your mirror on top and secure it with some velcro strips or a double-sided adhesive strip.

TRIM AND HANG YOUR MIRROR

Once you have your supplies, it’s time to put that work into action. Begin by trimming the excess glass on the edges of your mirror and then hanging it using picture hanger nails. If your old frame is metal, you’re good to go! You can start priming and painting right away.
